This is a very strange article on #ukhousing policy. It vaguely criticises the idea we need to build many more homes (which we do) and offers no alternatives. 1/6 https://www.theguardian.com/global/2021/jan/02/covid-19-changed-many-things-it-should-change-housing-policy-too
Of all the things to criticise @RobertJenrick for this is left field. The role of local plans is to plan for required growth. If they don't then they aren't fit for purpose. We'll done for tearing those ones up! 2/6
I don't know how much personally @RobertJenrick cares about the size of homes but he has overseen measures for the rest of the country to apply minimum space standards as they do in London (introduced by @BorisJohnson when he was Mayor). These are not pokey. 3/6
Further bizarre criticism for @RobertJenrick for supporting public transport infrastructure for #ukhousing. This is obviously vital for a low carbon sustainable future. Is this piece really arguing for more car-dependent developments? 4/6
After failing to land any punches in the previous 14 paragraphs the article ends on this zinger for #ukhousing. What are "dehumanising homes"?! There are significant plans in the Planning White Paper for standards to address climate change. This is uninformed tosh.
There's plenty of scope for real debate on real issues facing #ukhousing including building safety, home ownership, social housing regulation, private renting reform, environmental retrofit of existing homes and more. Why are column inches being wasted on this?
