From all the years of being by Oikawa’s side, Iwaizumi also learns how to put on a mask. It’s simple and straightforward, nothing like the act that Oikawa pulls.

It’s the perfect defense to hide his emotions when Oikawa calls him from Argentina, saying he’s going to stay.

He tells Tooru that he’ll support him and that he’ll do great in Argentina.

They call again on the night before Tooru is supposed to change his citizenship officially and he does not tell Tooru about how he was searching for houses they could settle down in.

He does not tell Tooru of all the plans he had been making for the past how many years. He wanted them to settle down together in a nice place in Japan.

He makes sure his mask is in place and shoves Tooru further towards his dream—

Letting go of the chain that Tooru had unlocked himself from already.

Hajime smiles for Oikawa, and smiles for all of the dreams he had for their future together, now burned and kept away as Oikawa chases the sun, a thousand miles apart from him.
