So this is a thread inspired by thread posted by @BeingHorizontal Its about my experiences with linux on the desktop. I have built & used computers from the days of PC-Dos and used every version of Windows from 2.5 (The Executive?) So I'm not a newbie....

I have experimented with different flavors of Linux for a long time but started using it as a regular os on desktop and laptop only after Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver. My family is comfortable using Ubuntu for almost everything and we very rarely need to boot into Windows
It has been fast, stable and reliable. It does everthing we need. Updates to both OS and Software have been very smooth too. Its worth your while to setup a Linux desktop. Usability is surprisingly good. Browsing, media playing, Office apps.
A couple of tools I use regularly to create bootable USB sticks are Rufus and recently, Ventoy, which I find amazing. Do try it. Thank me later. Get it from https://www.oldergeeks.com/downloads/file.php?id=3317
There are so many variants of Linux that are listed on http://Distrowatch.com  that anyone could spend days just trying them out. Many are specialized and niche. Some are prettier than others. Its a buffet where you can find many choices to suit your needs. Explore ....
I have used many Ubuntu, Knoppix, Mint, POP, Peppermint and many more. Amongst tiny distros I have loved Slax, Puppy and Slitaz. All are worth trying out, even if its just for fun, to see whats possible in these tiny sizes.
It boggles the mind that such a wide variety of great software is just waiting to be enjoyed. For free!
And getting used to using Linux is a gift that keeps on giving! I hope you try some and enjoy.....Cheers🍻
