I usually distain quite tweet criticism of people as none of us are perfect beings but this is just pure sadism disguised as education. Im a parent. I cannot fathom denying a child food, it goes against the very fiber of my being.

Even when one of the kids say they arent hungry i will still present them with food in case they change their minds. Food will be served regardless because not doing so would be unethical. They are children.

Teaching them to use a can opener, sure thats something we can teach kids. But that takes like 5 minutes tops. You can even explain how the gears work if you want. You dont have to make them reinvent a skill from first principles.

And yes sometimes kids on their own *want to figure out a thing on their own* and thats fine. But i always offer to show them how, theres always a way for them to tap out and ask for help and they know they have backup.
