Parents left to Bangalore back today .. It’s a heavy heart for all . Few thoughts on parents in their old age , especially when you meet them after almost an year

Dad has definitely slowed down compared to Mom.. His walking, his reflexes etc.
I realised how thin our patience is with elderly people. It took me couple of days to adjust myself to their speed & not become impatient , especially when we travelled out. We need to slow down for them n remember our own kids when they were tiny. Parents become kids again
The most striking was Dad’s struggle with his denture while eating. Got it changed here & the joy of chewing food without pain was immense . Lesson to be learnt is look after your teeth well into your old age & of course, your general health as well,to the maximum extent possible
The next striking aspect was how fragile our lives are & how a pandemic like this can cut off our contact with our dear ones. I applied a week’s leave to stay with them. Lucky are those who are staying with your parents. Don’t take it for granted. We nvr know when we meet again!
Amma has been always the resilient one in the family. Even now she looks after a lot of things at home. What I realised is, she also requires back up n appreciation in a more open way for her to carry on.. Being vocal about it boosts her esteem. She is the pillar for all of us
Finally, these are my personal thoughts . Each home is different with their own stories. What ultimately endures is Love, good health and family ties which no money can buy .. we need to keep them safe & also slow down once a while to appreciate them 🙂
