I am so confused by Aust Twitter over the past week. The tribalism, invective, mean spiritedness and fanaticism over the pandemic from normally stalwart people is abhorrent in its gruesome frenzy.
The thing that absolutely baffles me is that none of this covid slanging matches has an end goal other than opposition. It fails as activism, it fails as health or science comms & doesn’t even ankle civic participation. And over what? Some of the lowest case numbers in the world?
There is no end goal to any of the discourse. No spirited debate to increase protection or even share information. Just unhinged tantrums of children - who either claim they work in health or affect that expertise - idealising one aspect to hysteria or devaluing with hate & fury.
Here’s another way to explain it: have you ever been the focus of an internet pile on? When a throng decides you are bad wrong & you become the focus of their hatred? I have. That’s what Aust Twitter feels like rn. You may not be the subject of the pile on, but you see it daily.
Anyway, I’m muting this because I can already see replies disputing if I am in Victoria or other shit that just proves my point.

Instead of venting your frustration at me or others, ask yourself the purpose of your tweets and what impact that’ll have on you & others.
