I no longer call myself a libertarian. All too often, it has become a label people use against me when I start thinking for myself.
Oh, you wear a mask? You're not a libertarian. Oh, you're hopeful for vaccines? You're not a libertarian. You think biological sex is real? You're not a libertarian. OK. FINE. I'M NOT. I'm me.
"You're not a libertarian" actually means "you don't represent my views." Libertarians are extremely protective of the label partly because there are so few well-known libertarians. They will attempt to tear down anyone they feel doesn't represent them as a whole.
For example, there are certain libertarians who try to tear me down because they think I'm too *personally* socially conservative. Not unlibertarian. They are just protective of the label- and worry about how others might perceive *them* because of me calling myself libertarian.
But I don't want to represent anyone. I'm not running for Congress over here! I'm a (mostly) stay-at-home mom who needs a creative outlet and to get stuff off my mind! Let me tweet in peace 🙏
