Pradakshina-
According to the Hindu religion, a visit to a temple is incomplete without doing the Pradakshina, meaning circling the inner sanctum of the temple which houses the deity, the garbhagriha in a clockwise direction. Also around sacred fire, trees & Tulsi plant. 1/6
If we break the word Pra-Da-Ksi-Na, the syllable Pra dispels sin, the syllable Da bestows what is desired, the syllable Ksi causes the destruction of Karman and the syllable Na is the giver or bestower of salvation. 2/6
While doing the pradakshina, one needs to go to the left hand side so that the deity around the Sanctum Sanctorum is on the right side. Meaning God is on our right side he being righteous in all ways . 3/6
We also acknowledge that God is the focal point in our life. Source and essence of our life.
hence we go around him. As per the Swayambhooaagama, a number of twenty-one pradakshinas in a day is considered to be the most beneficial. 4/6
Pradakshina should always be done with folded hands and visualizing the deity at all times as this helps the devotee to ward off the ego from his mind while following the fundamental principles of Dharma. 5/6
No of pradakshina vary for diety to diety.
1- Ganapati
2- Surya
3-Shiva
4- Devi and Vishu
7- Arayaal (sacred fig)
Do share if there is any other reason..
