🚨I am sharing this for a friend @CyaCAHelloTX who I’ve been on the phone with all day after an absolutely HORRIFIC experience with @AmericanAir who has her son (just turned 14) basically hostage alone ALL DAY through a horrible ordeal trying to get back to TX. My gosh- bad
I have been waiting all day to see how they would pull through here and make this right but this is just abhorrent and I’m furious. What follows below is her writing this story. I had to share this as a warning that everyone contemplating sending their kids should hear.
@AmericanAir, knew for 48 hours a winter storm was coming, I asked to re-book his flight but they said it’s not cancelled and there was no room the next day and he would be fine. The delays started at 6 am when the flight was scheduled to leave, he stayed in the airport for an
hour and a half and then on the runway for an additional hour and then was delayed again. They said it was “maintenance” but the snow was falling furiously and there was no doubt weather played a major factor. I asked for him back once they returned to the gate so he could go
home with my friend and they ignored me, refused me. 4 hours later they finally took off arriving for his connection way too late not just for his original connection but the following one as well. They put all of the minors in a hot room which they called a “lounge.”
The escort we had to pay for left saying he had to go take care of something, my son thought he would return so he could use the bathroom and go buy food, he never came back. The attendant who was supposed to be making sure every minor’s needs in that room were taken care of sat
on her phone ignoring the kids and I had to have my son ask her to get his escort. She was supposed to make sure the phones were charged and the kids were fed — yet my kid himself had to ask for this. He was finally fed and then put on a plane that was delayed AGAIN, you guessed
it for “maintenance.” Side note: my mother worked in an airline’s maintenance department for 20 years, it’s always used as an excuse to delay. After being delayed 3 times out of the city he was late for the final connection. He arrived JUST before the connection which would have
finally got him home was departing but they wouldn’t hold it for the 10 minutes it would have taken to get him aboard, he didn’t even have luggage to check just a bag. He’s now sitting in an airport, feeling like absolute garbage with probably nothing open in the airport open to
eat at. He will be placed in a room, NOT a lounge for TWO HOURS — they won’t even put him in the AA club at this point which he deserves instead of some nasty room. He was at least met with food and now we are waiting to see if they will make sure his phone his charged —
not his fault it’s dead after all of these hours and no place to charge. But get this, they don’t even have his next flight booked even though they KNEW they weren’t going to put him on his connecting flight. During this whole mess I was told someone would call me, 6 hours went
by before I even got a call, I explained the whole mess and was told they would be looking into it and someone would get back to me this evening. THEY LEFT, without calling me. When he was getting ready to land I feverishly tried calling the number back and continuing back and
forth on AA’s Twitter DM only to be ignored for 20 minutes and not knowing if they were going to get him on the next flight. It should also be noted that reservations told me that if he didn’t make his flight and was unable to come home he’d be in a secure location over night
with an attendant. I NEVER, EVER AGREED TO THAT and was assured he would make it home. Now at this point it does look like he’ll be home, AFTER 16 HOURS of delays, layovers and flying time. All they had to do was give me my son back while they sat at the gate early this morning
knowing it would be hours before take off. PS, trying to talk to reservations was an hour wait time which is why i went through Twitter — knowing someone would come to me if I dared complain publicly about what they were doing to my son.
And as I was sharing this entire story she’s learned that @AmericanAir doesn’t have him secured the way they said, and also hasn’t provided him a food voucher. This is over 16 hours they’ve been dealing with this mess. Don’t ever let your kids fly alone. This is a nightmare
and I feel absolutely horrible for my friend who is the most level headed amazing woman in the world until you mess with her kids. @AmericanAir FIX THIS.
