1. We often call things “liberal” as a pejorative. Sometimes it can get confusing if you don’t understand what liberalism is, what’s wrong with it, and why we should oppose it. So let’s go over the basics!
2. What is liberalism? According to Britannica, it is a “political doctrine that takes protecting and enhancing the freedom of the individual to be the central problem of politics.”
3. Like all ideologies, liberalism emerged out of concrete material conditions and class struggle. Liberalism is the ideology emerging from the victorious bourgeoisie in their victory over feudalism, the establishment of capitalism, and their creation of liberal democracies.
4. That is why liberalism is a fundamentally bourgeois ideology. It’s the natural ideological development of laissez-faire capitalism, the necessary ideological justification for societies organized around the free market.
5. Liberalism emerged at the same time as racial slavery and settler-colonialism, laying bare the contradictions in liberal ideology. Like Lenin said, "Freedom in capitalist society remains about the same as it was in the ancient Greek republics: freedom for the slaveowners.”
6. Liberalism helped break feudalism, but it's reached its limit and is a regressive force holding humanity back from advancing. Liberalism justifies the current order of things which is why liberals today talk progressive but still justify imperialism and lack a class analysis.
7. The enemy welcomes and promulgates liberal thought because liberalism justifies the current order of things while making any revolution impossible. It completely unravels revolutionary organizations and dissipates revolutionary energy.
8. Liberalism, stemming from bourgeois selfishness, must be rooted out and defeated. It's the ideology of the slave master, colonizer, and bourgeoisie. That's why revolutionaries like Comrade Mao engaged in relentless struggle against liberalism and why we today must do the same.
9. Something can be radical and still be liberal. "Form" does not mean "essence." Radical liberalism is still very comfortable within the confines of capitalist imperialism. That's why we must adopt and advance the ideology of the working-class: revolutionary scientific socialism
