10. Polo G - The GOAT (Album)

I was really surprised by this project, having never been a fan of Polo before but surprisingly, even though the production is at times lackluster, Polo G shines throughout.

Top 3:

Martin & Gina
33
Don't Believe The Hype
9. AJ Tracey - Secure The Bag! 2 (EP)

Tracey had an incredible year, between features, non-project singles and dropping this incredibly tight EP, solidifying him as one of the best rappers in trap and generally in the mainstream for me.

Top 3:

Blow My Phone
Yumeko
Triggered
8. Lianne La Havas - S/T (Album)

One of the best first listens I've ever had. Stunning vocals and beautiful instrumentation throughout. Also one of the most replayable projects I've heard in a while.

Top 3:

Read My Mind
Bittersweet - Full Length
Weird Fishes
7. Mac Miller - Circles (Album)

Mac's best project, narrowly beating TDF for me. One of the most gorgeous albums I've ever heard. So simple and intimate, this album's beauty is truly unmatched.

Top 3:

Blue World
Hand Me Downs
Good News
6. Tkay Maidza - Last Year Was Weird Vol. 2 (EP)

Probably the most versatile display on a project this year. This project's all hits, no misses and feels so tight and complete that it runs more like a shorter album rather than an EP.

Top 3:

My Flowers
PB Jam
Shook
5. Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA (Album)

This album is genuinely mindblowing to me. Probably the most creative and charismatic release of the year. Production, vocals, writing; every aspect of this project is captivating.

Top 3:

XS
Dynasty
Commes Des Garçons (Like The Boys)
4. Kali Uchis - Sin Miedo (Del Amor y Otros Demonios) (Album)

This project is severely underappreciated. Almost entirely in Spanish, consistent and varied, this is my favorite Kali album so far.

Top 3:

fue mejor
la luz(Fín)
telepatía
3. Brent Faiyaz - Fuck The World (Album)

Brent yet again (successfully) switches up his instrumental pallet on a new release and manages to remain equally impressive vocally despite his more laid back approach.

Top 3:

Been Away
Soon Az I Get Home
Bluffin
2. Drake - Dark Lane Demo Tapes (Album)

Drake keeps pulling bangers out his ass using loosies and leaks. This shit's fire front to back, I got nothing else to say. You either like it or you're a virgin.

Top 3:

Chicago Freestyle
When To Say When
Time Flies
1. Pop Smoke - Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon (Album)

My favorite project of all time. Pop Smoke's transition to the mainstream is surprisingly smooth and versatile and even sees him interpolating RnB classics.

Top 3:

What You Know Bout Love
Something Special
Gangstas
