I think this is what I expected would happen here. But there is no well-oiled British hygiene machine, just a week-old mask worn under the nose and a dirty cotton hanky with a flag embroidered on the corner. https://twitter.com/koryodynasty/status/1345210393715564544
The exact moment I gave up on expecting anything better was when I got a blood test in a major London hospital from a nurse who wasn’t wearing a mask. You can’t fix what’s broken there.
If you want to see it actually happening, the gastroscopy dept at Lewisham Hosp (not the same hospital I had Nurse Covid) was precisely the well-oiled machine I’d expected everywhere. Faultless and therefore efficient. Would make a perfect case study.
But that’s been the only example I’ve encountered in the entire pandemic. Everywhere else has been a shower of shite and nose exposers. Yesterday I saw a guy throw his rubbish out of his car window. Maybe we’re just a dirty, lazy nation. I don’t know.
I don’t mean to undermine the amazing hard work the non-lazy, non-dirty section of society are doing. I just suspect they’re the minority. I don’t feel an overall culture of ‘safety first’ anywhere really.
Like, did anyone else think that the Tube would have enforcement agents checking for mask compliance and free masks at station entrances etc? Basic things that would make a dramatic difference? And huge media campaigns with strict messaging.
Anyway. Glad South Korean airports have their shit together. Maybe British newspapers could do front pages calling ours a shame and a disgrace, that’ll rattle a few patriotic teeth.
