Content warning: some discussion on weight loss follows.
I've been asked a few times how much weight I've lost since I started running. I've made a tentative decision to stop answering that question and I'd love some feedback from the @runningpunks community on that decision.
Up 'til now, I've answered candidly (and sometimes supplied that info without prompting). Initially, weight loss was a goal, but while paying attention to that hasn't had any negative effects on me, I know that the same isn't true for a lot of people in the community.
It feels weird to say it (the "runfluencer" in my bio was very much a joke when I put it there), but it turns out I have a lot of people following me, and I think that comes with some responsibility.
The biggest, most important metric for me has always been how much I've been able to run, and how I felt doing it. I've made huge progress on that front, and yes, I have lost some weight doing, I'm sure people can tell.
I do want to say for the record that all those changes have come without any major alterations to my diet. I'm honestly not sure if mentioning that is a good idea, and that's part of why I'm making this thread.
I'm rather candid about my mental health on here, but I'm also very aware that I don't deal with any of the various issues that can make getting into running (or any other activity) a real minefield.
I think I do want to continue tracking my own weight loss. It's something that's helped me personally, but I know that's not the same for everyone. I'm pretty sure that actually putting numbers on it publicly can do more harm than good.
Forgive me for rambling a lot and talking around the point, but that kind of is the point: I don't know how to talk about this.
I'm pretty sure that specifically talking about weight loss isn't a good idea, but if there's anything else any of the punks want me to keep in mind I'm listening, and I'm not going to stop listening. My inbox is open if you don't want to talk publicly.
For me this has been a hugely positive community, one that's helped me a great deal. I want to do my part to make sure it's that for as may people as possible.
