There is no natural federal agency to do this. If one was made to, they 1) wouldn’t know how and 2) it would represent a massive federal power grab that is unprecedented. And if it’s the state, they’ve already done an audit. The votes have been counted THRICE. https://twitter.com/McCormackJohn/status/1345412426435596290
The behavior of republicans from 2016 to now is striking. Making elections critical infrastructure? Allowing DHS to play a major role? Back then, tantamount to a war on states rights. Now? Who cares about states rights. The federal government can do what it wants.
And, while simultaneously arguing that Georgia should be forced to do what a senator from a dif state thinks is best, they say funding elections or setting basic standards to have more uniform processes across the country would prohibit states from conduction their own elections.
These positions do not make sense at once. You cannot believe them both. But here they are, making arguments that are ideologically in opposition to their long history of states rights in elections, to defend the record of a president with historically low approval ratings.
I don’t get it. I genuinely don’t. I’ve been covering election administration for 5 years, and I’ve seen a lot of people in a lot of positions say bizarre things. This is - in terms of history and ideology - the most bizarre.
