My bf just stumbled across 1 of my sketchbooks from our 1st yr of architecture @ the AA (2002) & reminded me we were taught by the guys who did this stuff & spent the whole year trying 2 design complicated folded triangulated surfaces 4 absolutely no discernible reason whatsoever
Whenever questions were asked we were referred either to their student drawings (lots and lots and lots of lines, kind of like an early 2000s sci fi film starting sequence) or to “read Deleuze”
By the way, irregular triangulated surfaces are profoundly useless in so, so many ways its utterly remarkable. We had to put foam balls all over our end-of-year exhibition to stop people of all heights getting their eyes spiked out, and knees lacerated
They spoke 2 us in a completely incomprehensible kind of mangled-french-theory-meets-fortune-cookie jargon. 1 of them went on 2 run the AA Landscape Urbanism course 4 many years & an ex student made this AMAZING “Landscape Urbanism Bullsgit Generator” http://www.ruderal.com/bullshit/bullshit.htm
Try it, it’s literally how they would speak to us gullible 18 year olds... “excuse me tutor, but what do u mean we should ‘rhizomatically fold our diagramatization methodology into the contextual gradientation’?” Their answer? Pick any of the generator’s outputs!
