Episode 1
What is there to say, other than that it’s the greatest first episode of all time. It sets the tone through the opening, it sets up some prominent ideas through dialogue, and the way the hospital politics are handled is incredible.

-value of human life, and what’s most important to a doctor. It also shows the underlying issues within the hospital, and how they use any means to improve their image. The final couple of minutes are incredible......the pacing is perfect.
Episode 3-Murder case
The OST is very fitting to each scene, and sets the tone very well. Eva’s “breakdown” at the funeral is amazing due to the prior characterisation she was given, and since it’s first time something was taken from her, she isn’t able to properly process it.

Lunge’s introduction is great, and his characterisation as almost robotic, through his mannerisms and speech. Tenma’s kind and caring nature shown off in this episode.
Episode 4-Night of punishment

-further clouded in mystery, especially through Tenma’s talk with the old man. Johan literally appears for 10 seconds and it’s the peak of the episode, how does he do it? So clear......
Episode 7-House of Tragedy
Consistently engaging the entire way through. Anna’s speech regarding Johan just adds so much to his complexity. Anna’s letter she leaves for Tenma where she repeats, “It wasn’t your fault.” Is incredibly indicative of her empathy as she understands-

-how much saving Johan has negatively affected him.

-a coping mechanism. When Tenma doesn’t return her feelings she lashes out at him, and threatens to tell the police the truth. I FUCKING LOVE EVA.......I can kinda see myself saying Eva>Tenma when I finish my watch.
Episode 9-The Girl and the Seasoned Soldier

Episode 10-A Past Erased
A very strong episode overall, without anything that really stood out, however, the way Johan became even more menacing without even appearing was incredibly well done.

It has become redundant at this point to say how much I love Johan........511 Kinderheim is just in general one of my favourite concepts in Monster. The irony of Hartmann talking about it depending on the parent that raises them is brilliant. I-
-absolutely adore Tenma’s protection of Dieter. “It’s a big lie that the world is dark” is such a banger line. The juxtaposition between how the two orphanages treat the children is incredible, and shows how nurture is able to affect the way people turn out(Johan and Anna)
Episode 12-A little experiment
The way in which every layer of the mystery is layer on one after another is just incredible. “Everyone died”, “Johan watched it...”-GOAT. “To be the last remaining person in the world...” CHILLS MAN!

I find Dieter to be kind of fascinating tbh, he almost acts as a contrast to Johan(shown with a visual contrast as well), this is done to further the themes of nurture vs nature, and just as the orphanages show how nurture affects how people turn out, Dieter shows why nature is-
-just as important.
Episode 13-Petra and Schumann
Man, Schumann so good.....the way he’s used as both a contrast and mirror to Tenma in multiple different ways is so amazing.

Episode 14-Left Behind

The way Lunge morphs Johan into this other personality of Tenma, shows that Lunge can’t accept that he’s wrong, so finds anyway to twist the story. Lunge’s complete dedication to work has proven to have negative consequences on his family life, so much-
-that his daughter is pregnant and he didn’t realise it. He doesn’t notice anything as the only thing he seemingly cares about is his work, this causes him to be so-called “left behind” when it comes to as a person. Even after his wife and daughter tell him they’re leaving-
-he still seems to only focus on work, it’s almost like the saying “Old habits die hard.” So, with Eva this episode there’s just so much I like about her this episode, from the way she destroys her body with alcohol due to both guilt and her overpowering feelings of loneliness-
-to how she has sex as a way to feel a familiar connection, as well as her speaking Tenma’s name due to still missing. So clear! “You really are a loneliness person” is such a poignant line. Her burning her house at the end is the peakest of peak, demonstrating how broken she-
-ultimately is. This episode is incredible in showcasing how broken these two characters actually are. The best episode so far. Peak fiction.
