this. the Deaf community, that we idolized (&still do) from birth, doesn’t like hearing people, UNDERSTANDABLY. it’s painful when the hearing community doesn’t want us & the Deaf community doesn’t want us either. where do we fit in? this is a struggle, BUT i will never say /1 https://twitter.com/drunkcrier/status/1345125192348168193
that this compares to the struggle and oppression that Deaf people have to go through every. single. day. i will never say i am NOT hearing. yes, i can hear. but i grew up culturally deaf. just like how some people who cannot hear, do not identify themselves as Deaf. /2
i feel grateful to be a part of the community. thankful. but i will always know that i am not THE community. i will never use my background to profit off of our parents backs. i will never drown out the messages Deaf people fight so hard to get out there. /3
all in all, CODAs just want to feel loved and accepted. a place where they belong and can feel like they fit in. the trauma we go through of feeling unwanted again will not compare to those of Deaf people, but it is still trauma. we just want to find our place in this world. 🤟🏼
