Lotta GOPsters hoped that they could keep their heads down and get through the transition, apparently forgetting that outbidding is a thing.
And hey, I can appreciate the true level of anger that they have against Hawley and Cruz. It's one thing to get outbid by a genuine idiot like Gohmert; comes with the territory when you've decided to represent the kind of people who make up the GOP primary electorate.
Hawley and Cruz aren't dumb, they're just utterly unprincipled and are outbidding in an effort to control the future of the party. Turning a crisis into an opportunity, so to speak.
But it puts to the lie the hope that the GOP was ever going to go back to "normal." For those who were fervently praying that they could remain in the GOP and still hold onto even the flimsiest pretext of dignity... well, you should have seen Hawley and Cruz coming.
Every single person who has an "R" next to his name: This is the party that you created, and the effort that you abetted when you decided to say *nothing* about Trump's effort to steal the election.
I will say that it's depressing watching people ask themselves the question "What's more important, democracy or my future in the Republican Party?" and then emphatically choose the latter.
