Folklore podcasters are storytellers. Like the Welsh bard or the Cornish Droll-teller. We are, in a virtual capacity, sharing stories that we love. Yes, research is & should be undertaken but these episodes cannot be treated like truly academic exercises & held to that standard.
The same goes for YouTube and tiktok and any other social media content creators. Blatant misinformation & dangerous lies & bad practice should be highlighted but folklore is storytelling and stories change, adapt and evolve. There shouldn’t be one correct version of a folk tale.
The same also goes for authors!! I often get people asking me for the correct version of myths and legends because they want to be historically accurate. That’s lovely but there is no one accurate version of many folktales! Have fun, do the research & then do your own thing ☺️
