Why Nuno the terrorist should pay for his footballing crimes with his job: a thread. (Please actually read the thread before throwing opinions at me - especially the das)
Honestly I’ve been reluctant to say it, but he’s got to go. I’ve said it mostly out of frustration and partially in an ironic way a couple of times, but I’m 100% serious now. I can’t see any sign of improvement.
Today’s result makes it 1 win in our last 7 games. I would argue we should’ve been picking up at least 10 points from those games, we’ve gained 5.
The constant negative tactics are not only costing us valuable points but also meaning we don’t get anywhere near the best out of our squad. A squad that SHOULD be challenging for Europe again this season, but is instead stuck in mid table after months of poor results
Today we played 17th placed Brighton, took a 2 goal lead into the break and ended up drawing. After our lead was reduced early in the second half, instead of trying to find a goal to kill the game, we change formation to go more defensive. Inevitably inviting more pressure. 3-3.
This isn’t a one off, we have dropped points due to Nuno’s decisions and tactics on FAR too many occasions this season. This along with his tactics are holding us back and I can’t see any other way of looking at it.
Our squad has some very exciting players. Neves, Adama, Neto etc can cause teams serious problems - but not when they’re sat on the edge of their own 18-yard box defending a one goal lead
If we’re going to sit back and defend one goal leads we should at least do it effectively. But it never works and we ALWAYS seem to concede, but Nuno refuses to change his ways and never learns
It’s that stubbornness and unwilling to change/learn from him mistakes that got him sacked from both Porto and Valencia and it seems as though his fate could be heading the same way here. He talks about “adapting” but never seems to do so
Nuno has done so, so much for this club. But it’s due to him that we have gone backwards this season, and if we aren’t careful we’ll stagnate and start to lose our best players. Eventually falling even further backwards, we won’t be far off a relegation scrap
The obvious question is, who would replace him. And I don’t have an answer to that, hence sacking him right now probably isn’t a good idea. But if there was a suitable replacement out there I would be screaming for his head.
On the topic of going backwards, it’s not just in league position, but also the way we play. First season back we played with no fear, we attacked teams with intent. Now we seem scared of every team we play and the tactics are almost awful.
I’ve seen @Gary_Poynton describe it the best, it’s cowardly.
We have built our identity off of defending and keeping clean sheets, with the idea that we can’t lose if we don’t concede. We’ve kept 4 clean sheets this season.
Our attack was one of the 4 worst in the division prior to KO (not sure on the stats now) and our defence isn’t a fat lot better. Conceding 4 goals to the likes of West Ham is unforgivable
We seem to be on a downward spiral and i don’t see many signs of improvement. However, we’ve come out of runs like this stronger in the past so hopefully this time will be the same. But as for now, Nuno’s future looks bleak if things don’t change soon.
