Our veterans are a national treasure and we can show that respect by making sure they have a solid VA and good care. But we're creating a new class of wannabe-Spartans, which runs counter to the citizen-soldier model in the United States. /2
This, more than anything else, might be a reason to reinstate a draft. We're outsourcing military security to a small cadre of volunteers, feeling bad about it, and then lavishing praise on them for volunteering. This is unhealthy and unsustainable. /3x
