Webtoon common mistakes. [Thread]
Typography
Avoid "Giant wall of texts that many might skim over."
Break the info down. Using dialogues. Directly showing information. Add art. Blend into story. Avoid texts unaccompanied by a parent [panel].
Show vs tell
It's a webtoon, show the information. You've got art on your side. Don't be shy. Use it.
Show don't tell.
Tell: His mom neglects him.
Show: In a near empty fridge, 2 last slices of stale bread left and spoiled milk. A note "I'll be back in 3 weeks-love, Mom." Note left 4 weeks ago. [See storyboard 2 pages of this information being shown.]
Avoid show and tell on top. It's redundant.
Imagine if I said "His mom neglects him." While already showing his mom neglecting him. It's unnecessary. The audience gets it. They are smart people.
