It’s really simple: private schools get paid directly by parents, so they care what families think.

Public schools get paid no matter how unhappy families are. The revolutionary part of #schoolchoice will be realigning incentives in PUBLIC schools to give parents a real voice. https://twitter.com/zacbissonnette/status/1345416258079109121
Btw I like the assumption in the Axios article that private schools have more money, and that explains the difference rather than need to serve the families who directly pay them.

Avg private tuition in this country is lower than the $14.5k we spend per pupil in public schools.
Bottom line: it’s not that the private schools have more $(on avg), but that $ are connected to parent satisfaction w/ the edu provided to their kids, that matters. Unions blab about how school choice lacks accountability but what they fear is that it would hold THEM accountable.
