Observation:
Both major US political parties are going through a hostile takeover of the core of the party. By core, I don't mean the actual elected persons, but the aims, goals, platform, and the "king-makers".

Both parties are having the center "hollowed out". All that will be left of each is a shell of what the party once was.
Imagine a twinkie in which the middle, the filling and the body of the twinkie, is removed. In it's place, rather than twinkie, it is now a hot dog.

Those who don't see the replacement will still see a twinkie by name and appearance. But, after they've bought it and taken it home... there will be a surprise.
I don't know what the reaction to that surprise will be. Either way, it will be a time of political, and potentially societal, turmoil until the packaging and the appearance of the parties matches the core of those parties.
