The subject of purpose or Personal Legend as Paul Coelho puts it in The Alchemist is unavoidable. Everything has a reason they exist. For example, the chair you sit on was made for a purpose. It was made to make you feel comfortable.
2.

The chair was not made for itself but you! For humans. Therefore, everything and everybody made were not made for themselves but for others.

When I was in basic school, I wanted to become different things at different times because of my level of exposure.
3.

I was just a blank sheet waiting for my environment to write on my sheet. It's important to know that you can't desire to become more than what you are exposed to. Your exposure determines how far you go.
4.

Hence, you must get exposure to avoid being limited. It's not until you travel before you are exposed. You get exposure from books, movies, people, and the likes.
5.

So, when I was in basic school, I wanted to be an accountant not because I knew what they do but because my dad said so. Moreover, when I got into secondary school, I just wanted to be a doctor because my dad also said so. Although I didn't like the idea.
6.

Oh, I didn't tell you? My teachers wanted me to become an engineer. Well, I was quite intelligent, so, that wasn't an issue.

Nonetheless, I didn't like the idea. I was in the sciences but I didn't do well. I wasn't at peace with it.
7.

I loved writing and I wrote a book, Why Goats are Stubborn between classes 7 and 8. That book was inspired by one of the Lantern Books I read, Whisker the Brave Cat. I couldn't publish it because my dad didn't like the idea. He wanted me to become a doctor!
8.

I felt sad and discouraged. But one thing I learnt is that in the long or short run, you'd always come to a place of finding your purpose. Well, some are lucky to kick-start the journey early enough while some are not!
9.

Until I got to the university, I didn't know writing was a thing although I performed excellently well in secondary school in the English Language. My essays and stories were always amazing.

Still, writing isn't the end itself. It's a means to an end.
10.

Therefore, clarity of purpose doesn't jump on one in a day. With time, you get to discover more about why you are here. And before you can discover why you are here and where you are going to, you have to desire to know your purpose.
11.

So many people are scared, hence, they choose to be blind to the obvious and loud omens.

Thus, as you start the journey of another year, know that it's a year to discover more about yourself, and get clarity in your calling or whatever you do. Be adventurous.
12.

Learn from people's and your mistakes, and apply the lessons learnt in your next trial. Always have it at the back of your mind that clarity of purpose comes every day. It's learning, relearning, unlearning, and becoming!

Happy New Year.
