Quick thread on some of what Raffi and Khrimian Hayrik wrote about women and the importance of an educated woman in Armenian culture. Drakhti Endanik was published in 1876, The Fool in 1880, and Papik and Tornik in 1894.
(Also of note, Hayrik taught at an all-girl school and made his thoughts on the importance of teaching girls as much as the boys clear.)
"No reform in the life of a people is possible without the participation of women. If our people have remained static, the principal reason is because women have not participated In public affairs...
In order to begin the work of educating our people, we must put the education of our women first...she preserved the Armenian culture." - Raffi, The Fool
“When the apostle ordered women to be docile, was it actually like that: as the people are to authority, the soldier to the commander or the slave to his master? No, it is not like that. The wife is not a subject, a soldier or a slave. The wife is the free companion of the
husband and an equal partner in every legal way." - Khrimian Hayrik, Drakhti Endanik
You still don’t understand that the source of all evil is ignorance and the ignorance of the woman in the family is even more dangerous than the man’s.” -Khrimian Hayrik, Papik ev Tornik
