I'll make v clear & public bet abt EU-China Investment Agreement #CAI: absolutely no chances of approval from European Parliament.
Once "treatment" (euphemism) of Uighur women gets publicity it deserves + prison labor, mass surveillance, no political group will want to touch it https://twitter.com/vonderleyen/status/1344268974444441600

It's going to follow the history of ACTA: a deal that was ill-advised, didnt get political temperature right, misunderstood public's interest in key issues, was pushed by corporations, a few governments & politicans in Brussels disconnected from political reality.
Same here.
Same here.
Once people learn that allegedly between 1 mln to 3 mln Uighurs - an ethnic minority - are imprisoned in forced labor "reeducation" camps, how will any serious MEP be able to vote in favor ? With EU history ? Legacy of II World War ? Germany pushing the deal? WONT HAPPEN.
Same w/ alleged treatment of Uighur women. CAVEAT: details murky, but allegations from many sources point to forced sterilization, abortions, plus intentional policy that at best looks like govt policy of encouraged cross-ethnic breeding & at worst like mass rape. WONT HAPPEN.
Add to this mass surveillance, policy towards Hong Kong, warlike posture towards Taiwan, belligerence vs. Australia, attempted inimidation of a number of EU Member States. All of this wil generate massive opposition from numerous sources within the EU.
Then you have the Americans entering the fray. EC and Germany rushed the deal to conclude before Biden takes over, but the EP approval will happen already under Biden admin. Americans will use all levers of power to kill this deal. Many MEPs will - for various reasons - cave.
EU corporations - main supporters of this deal - won't be able to have a fight abt CAI in public. This will expose them to public backlash for investing in Xinjiang (at best) and for benefitting from slave labor (at worst). They will fold as soon as the fight becomes public.
All in all, no MEP will stick out their neck to protect this deal when the dust settles. It will be rejected with massive majority. / END.
