Covid shows just how capitalism requires desperation. Instead of pumping money directly to the working class so we could take care of ourselves, money went to giant industries, with no "trickle down." The people became more desperate, so they could be cattle-prodded back to 1/n
work, forced to put their kids in schools when they weren't sure that was safe (it wasn't), forced to become exposed and letting the virus run rampant. We have failed at this pandemic because our society requires desperation to run. 2/n
Our food is grown by desperate people, who work for less than minimum wage in horrific circumstances, where their safety is constantly threatened. Our hospitals are cleaned by desperate people who are threatened with eviction so keep the joy that offers them just enough 3/n
to get by and not enough to thrive. If we want a different world, we must demand it. We must organize and cut off the billionaire class that sucks our blood like vampires. We must own our work and the value of it, which is how an economy runs. Our value has been stolen for 4/n
too long. Meanwhile the working middle class and the invisible underclass of undocumented laborers are bearing the brunt of this virus. While billionaires make profits off our desperation. We need an economy that centers our thriving. Our health. Our wellness. Our children. 5/n
Our elders. Covid has shown us the grotesque violence at the heart of the American nightmare. We can rewrite this script and build another story. To survive this pandemic we need #UBI #CancelRent #CancelMortgage #CancelDebt #Medicare4All #GreenNewDeal 6/n
If we had invested in our working people directly--we would have starved this virus and built wealth where wealth is urgently needed, so that we can build the tomorrow our great grandchildren need. Let's build that tomorrow now. #Organize #Covid19 END
