A thread that proves Messi>ronaldo in big games

There always has been a false premise, since the debate startes, that goals/assists=performance. For a player like messi that takes away from his brilliance. Why this is a terrible metric? Messi vs man city 2015 was 2 times better performance wise than messi vs man city 2017

messi scored 3 vs man city in 2017 and had only 1 assist in 2015. As for ronaldo his performance vs bayern in 2014 (H) (0 g/a) is much better than vs bayern in 2017 (H) (3 goals)

UCL KOS: Here what matters is consistency, not baseless stats
FINALS: Messi has 3/3 in good performances, 1 of which is considered the best ucl final performance ever (2011).

In 2015 he created the decider and started all barcelona attacks in the 2 other goals. He got 0 g/a yet he was crucial, much more crucial than cr7 who got 1G 1A in 2014 yet 1 was a meaningless pen in the 120th min and the other a backwards pass from half way line

In 2009, he had his worse performance out of all of his 3 finals, yet scored as many goals as the other 2 combined. He stiil secured the win and was good, but nothing spectacular.

Ronaldo in finals has had only 2 great performances, which are 2008 and 2017. In 2009 he wasnt great and in 2016 and 2018 especially he was among the worst on the pitch. In 2014 he covered the bad performance with a meaningless penalty in 120th minute.

Even his 2008 performance (for me his best) has something completely forgotten by the media. Why? Because they won the match even if he made a what would be fatal miss in the shootouts, if not for terry slipping. So ronaldo has 2/6 good performances in ucl finals.

SEMI FINALS (08-21): The criteria for me is you either have to be crucial for the win or be great in general, without choking moments (missing pens) and you can be good but get disqualified

So messi overall has been more consistent in sf. But, the difference is messi has moved on only 3/5 of these and not a single one in his average ones, while ronaldo has in 3/4 and moved on 3 more times of his bad ones.

QF: Ronaldo is clearly more consistent here, without no doubt. Some of messi's performances get often rediculed though, like juve 2017 and atletico 2016 when he created many chances for his team and they failed to score in easy chances, especially 2017.
R16: Equals overall

So messi is more consistent in 2/4 ko stages and equal in r16. Ronaldo has more goals, but his performance for example vs bayern 2017, which had 5 goals, was by no means better than messi's vs bayern in 2015 (2 goals 1 assist)

In wc matches I think ronaldo fans shouldnt even debate this. Messi has a wc golden ball, his single performance in 2014 is something ronaldo has never even come close in. Cr7 best performance was 2018 and it was nothing spectacular, besides that famous hat-trick.

EURO/COPA: Here it gets tricky since cr7 fans will claim, he has a int. trophy. Ronaldo in his trophy campaign only performed in 2/7 matches and got tournaments 7th best. Messi in 2015 was great in all matches and got tournaments best player

In the final he created 3 big chances that were all missed and was the only one to score his pen in the shootout. Even his 2016 copa where he missed his pen, he was great throughout. The only reason he has a int. trophy and messi doesnt is because of these pics here

In h2h matches and el clasicos messi is far superior, both stat wise, performance wise and consistency wise. He has performed better in almost all important matches (except 2012 with the calma)

The crazy thing is messi is labeled as eibarman by ronaldo's fans, yet if you look here, which are ronaldo's and messi's favourite teams to score against, it is far from the truth.

Against top european clubs: Messi has extremely similar stats against top 6 epl clubs while he never played in england, while cr7 has 2x the appearances and 6 years playing there. Ronaldo is better vs italian teams overall though.

As for bayern munich ronaldo has 2/4 good performances in 2014 and 2017 (in 2012 he choked). Messi has 2/4 as well and in 1 of the bad ones he was injured, the other is 8-2.

In wc qualifiers they do tend to perform well and even have saved their teams from not even qualifying with hat-tricks (vs sweden/ecuador). For anyone who doubts messi influence in argentina, because they are a historcally great team, here is how they did without him

Finally in cups (copa del rey/d'italia/fa cup) messi is clearly superior. This tournament is always devalued by cr7 fans, which is why he probably doesnt have a treble

For all ronaldo's fans dont get the wrong idea. Ronaldo is a big game player too and an incredible player. It is just that media highlights only messi's worst and at the same time ronaldo's best.
