One hundred years ago, a 23-year-old Black woman changed the course of history forever.
In @TeenVogue, on her birthday, I honor the legacy of Dr. Sadie Alexander and why her becoming America’s First Black Economist matters for all of us #econtwitter. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/who-was-sadie-alexander-first-black-woman-economist-us

Dr. Sadie Alexander received her PhD in Economics @Penn in 1921, but couldn't practice because racism and sexism. Her thesis centered the livelihood of Black people.
To put that into perspective, Alexander got her PhD just a month or so before the burning of Black Wall Street.

Dr. Alexander was the queen of firsts. She was the first:
- president of @dstinc1913
- woman who held office in @nationalbar
- Black woman to graduate from @pennlaw @PennBLSA
- Black Woman Lawyer in PA
She literally BLAZED trails for EVERYONE, especially marginalized people.

Aside from her professional firsts, Alexander started off as a young activist and continued by:

- marching in Selma @ava alongside MLK Jr.
- pushing for economic inclusion and political justice
She lived and breathed #BlackLivesMatter
