This is a pandemic that has so far predominantly affected the older generations. And yet so many costs have been disproportionately borne by the younger in terms of life chances, educational attainment and employment.
Despite this pandemic their priority is still overwhelmingly the climate & ecological crisis. When this virus is beat, we know it can be, politicians must repay their sacrifices.
We we’re told there was no ‘magic money tree’ and that society ‘couldn’t rapidly change’ at the speed @ClimateYouth4 and @XRebellionUK we’re demanding , to deal with the crisis.
We now know both things to be untrue. As such we must use this new understanding to work just as hard to combat the climate and ecological collapse as we have this pandemic, if not harder.
Look at how the public sector has galvanised itself and the private sector to produce PPE, ventilators and vaccines and risen to the challenge. Like the moon landings, when humanity commits itself to a task, anything is possible.
All that is needed is the political will. The science demands we act now. Not when the food shortages and chaos are fully upon us. Anything less would be a betrayal to the young, their sacrifices and the billions of others around the world most at risk.
