There is NO functioning IT software within the HSE. Patient’s records are paper- based.

Compare that with General Practice. 98% of GPs are fully computerised. HOW?

We pay annually for our own IT costing between €8,000 and €20,000 depending on the number of the GP staff. 1/ https://twitter.com/gavreilly/status/1345301447135678464
How well does the IT system work in General Practice?

Patients records are encrypted on the GP software and backed up on a secure approved online server, based in Ireland and on site.

Another separate annual cost borne by the GP(s). 2/
How are referral made?

All electronically and the only exception is when a patient is referred to ED (letter given to them) or when a hospital or Dr is not registered on Healthlink or Healthmail. GPs are GDPR compliant. Referral replies can then be accepted electronically. 3/

What has HSE CEO Paul Reid achieved?

There are more HSE administrators than HCPs.

Has he reduced the number of administrators? Of course not.

Has he employed more HCPs? NO.

So what has Paul Reid achieved during this pandemic compared to NHS CEO Simon Stevens?

#ZERO
9/
Without Irish GPs who are resilient and are able to adapt very quickly to the pandemic to provide a health service that worked, the health system would have collapsed. But like our HSE HCPs colleagues, are are all suffering from Burnout.

My thoughts/ suggestions: 10/
The HSE needs urgent reform.
1. Computerise it including patients medical records.

2. Ask every administrator to write and justify their job description. Close to 100,000 administrations, yet only approx 17,000 HSE Drs.

3. Employ more HCP and pay them well.

More later ...
4. Nurses. They are the glue that kept the health service running.

In this worsening global pandemic, to expect student nurses to fill the gaps and work for free is an utter scandal.

@paulreiddublin you need to PAY them ASAP and treat all the nurses better. 12/
For the record. I am a huge supporter of education no matter the age.

Just like the former Health Minister, @paulreiddublin did not have the relevant experience to run the HSE. Who else interviewed but was looked over? @kenfoxe can you find out please?
