Why people are so selfish (and why we should care)
Fact: No-one cares about your offer.
People care only about themselves.
"If you don't solve any of my problems.
Then I don't have time for you."
True, not true?
Leverage coaching habits to communicate better.

2/ Don't fall in love with your offer.
How often have you obsessed over your medicine, that you forget about the patient in front of you?
Guilty. Me too.
It's hard.
So I have this mantra I now ask myself.
"What if I fall in love with their problem, instead?"

3/ Be curious.
Asking about problems removes ego.
This removes the need to be the smartest person in the room.
This removes the need to be the hero.
Say instead: "I'm here to learn."
Understand. Seek. Serve.
Stay curious, just a bit longer.

4/ Hold back on the sell, keep asking questions.
This means, don't have an answer to everything.
Advice giving is often self serving.
More often than not it's also not helpful.
Ask instead:
"What's the real challenge here for you?"
"And, what else?"

5/ The secret sauce is listening.
Listen and ask open questions.
Be interested. Not only will you learn something, you will also earn trust.
I highly recommend reading "The Coaching Habit" by MBS, to learn more about the power of listening.
