I watched 3 Black women I admire, who have a proven records for working hard for change (and getting results), get mobbed on here for opinions about their opinions. It was wack. I’ve been trying to define the difference between accountability and harassment for myself.
I’m a firm believer that all of us will mess up and I do believe critique on here can help open up insight we may not have. But what I saw felt harassment-laden. And specifically saw them being held accountable for sins that weren’t theirs.
Anyway, I’m coming up with beliefs around the difference and would like to hear how/if other folks have thought about it.
Also feel like I should explain, when I do not have a clear point of view for something, I try to start with what I believe. I then go from belief to values (how I put that belief into action), then I evaluate when I am acting outside of my beliefs.
That helps me understand when something is my shit to work through or how I’m getting needs met in unhealthy ways or when I’m afraid of something. But if I don’t have clear beliefs, it’s tough for me to get there and allows me to be messier.
