Home ownership and business ownership are two near obsessions on this app. Yet no one ever talks about the pain of ownership if you are not ready.

Repairs you can't afford, taxes you didn't budget for.

There is nothing wrong with renting or just working a job.
In fact, I am the rare former home owner who is quite happy renting. Not everyone is handy, or interested in paying professionals for home repairs.

As for the waste part of renting, I pay to keep a roof over my head, I'm good with that.
Owning your own home or business when you aren't ready is a mistake.
The years of home ownership with the ex were a financial shit show. No doubt compounded by the years of self employment.

I swear, it was always the unexpected.

Nope, a decade plus of "my own home" left me thinking nope, never again.
Now? I live in brand new construction and happily write my rent check, and can plan for my future.

That's not all rental experiences, but neither are all home ownership situations good either.
Same for working for yourself. It's not for everyone.

You have to be motivated to go above and beyond. You also often have to make sacrifices.

There is security in knowing that every other week, a check is deposited into your account.
I can't even deal with a mouse in my house, I know my lane. Nope, I'm not buying shit.
So many of things that we are told that we "have" to do, in order to be seen as "successful" adults, don't work for everyone.

Home ownership
Business ownership
College
Marriage

By the time you figure this out, you probably did a few of these things.

Follow your bliss.
I feel like middle age is where you've done many of the things you thought you had to do. Then you realize what makes your heart sing.
