Trevor Lawrence

The Sugar Bowl has been bittersweet.

Big concerns are ability to overcome a deficit. I don't have data yet but will be looking at it.

A team like Clemson in the Lawrence era have simply not had many come-from-behind games.

(a thread)
But to come back in football is the difference between great and exceptional.

Lawrence has not had much experience.

He will have to improve on this with whatever NFL team drafts him - that we know.

He's talented, athletic, and versatile but does he have the "it" factor?
Playoff results:

2018-19 44 16 wins National Championship over Tua
2019-2020 loses 42-25 National Ch. vs Burrow 42-25
2020-2021 loses 49-28 semi final to Fields in Sugar Bowl
2018-19

Led 14-13 at the end of the first half and never looked back. Dominated that game. Passed for 347 yards and 3 TDs. Beat Tua in an upset.
2019-20

Led 17-7 in the 2nd Quarter then got dominated by LSU and Joe Burrow.

Lost by 17 and didn't throw a TD the entire game
2020-21

Was leading 14-7

Then Ohio State put up 28 unanswered points in the 1st half.
Scored 14 points in the second half.

Had a crucial fumble in the 3rd quarter.

Had a (perhaps unlucky) INT in the 4th. Either way, that pass seemed forced.

Never looked poised to come back.
Clemson's defense was not good. That is true.

Nor was it last year to be honest.

But they are not the only one to be blamed.

With being QB, a lot rides on one shoulder's. It's not a position for the weak. Those who struggle with adversity don't last long.
Not saying Lawrence is no longer the rookie QB1 and that Fields is. Not at all. I just think that the top 3 are closer than we thought now. Maybe even the top 6 are. Today's game left us all with more questions than answers.
