Today at work A customer that’s in one of my classes called and talked to@me about their dogs ongoing health issues. They are a 10 month old puppy, who was picked up from the streets in Texas in August and driven to Washington where it’s found out (1/10)

That dog has chronic ulcers. He will need to be on meds every time they flare up, and probably everyday of his life to keep it as calm as possible.
The man has dealt with this issue for a couple of months and the dog has had two flare ups since they found out. (2/10)

The man refuses to “force” his dog to take medicine. He won’t hold the dogs nose closed and wait for him to swallow. He won’t hide the pills in cheese or pill pockets or anything, and he won’t try liquid meds because he doesn’t want to “force” his dog to do anything (3/10)
Recently he’s also noticed the dog has had some severe separation anxiety and started biting his paws (an issue we work on in class a lot) but it’s gotten so bad that it’s now infected and the dog needs antibiotics. But the man won’t “force” his dog to take meds (4/10)
So : the man won’t give the dog his meds, so the dog has a flare up, the man won’t give the dogs the meds, so the dog is in terrible pain, and stops eating- also has a huge infection in his paw, but continues to lick at it, because the man works and leaves his dog (5/10)
And the man won’t give the dog his meds, so the dog can’t fight the infection either. And hasn’t eaten in 4 days.
So, man decides to take his dog to the vet today, to see what can be done.
The dog will have to be hospitalized for a few days to be given the meds...(6/10)

Has to be tube fed and given antibiotics. But will be back to normal in a few days, BUT the ulcers are chronic. So the man will HAVE to give the dog his meds or this will keep happening.
I offer to take the dog, I offer to find someone to take the dog TODAY (7/10)

And he says he will think about it, that he “wants to spend time with his boy” we hang up. Less than 2 hours later the man comes into the store and says “it’s done, it is what it is” and tries to find comfort in me. (8/10)
All of me is broken for this dog. I would have given anything to save his life. He was a baby. And could have been given an amazing life. I would have found him a loving home with people who wouldn’t find him to be a burden. This isn’t fair. This isn’t fucking okay (9/10)
If you choose to bring something that relies on you to survive, into your life, you do EVERYTHING to take care of that thing. Everything. You chose it. If you have to fall short to make it thrive, then so be it. You chose it. You chose it. You don’t give up a life when it’s hard
