Open letter (thread) to Albertans. I'm an ordinary man. No real political affiliation - I skew "left" but have voted Con, NDP & Lib at one time or other. But I have never seen such arrogance, entitlement & corruption in an Alberta government as 1/9
we've seen this week with @jkenney @TracyAllardUCP @PatRehnUCP @MattWolfAB @TheHuckabay and @UCPCaucus For weeks Kenney refused to implement needed and requested stringent lockdown measures as COVID cases & deaths multiplied exponentially. 2/9
Then late November he finally implemented overdo restrictions and TOLD Albertans to sacrifice, to stay home, to ONLY have 2 people in your home, to NOT visit loved ones. And the vast majority of us / you made that sacrifice - in some cases, 3/9
even as loved ones were dying, having birthdays, anniversaries or just celebrating Christmas involving years or decades of "tradition". You listened. You sacrificed. You tried - because you wanted to do the right thing. 4/9
You CHOSE to do the right thing. But what did at least 5 if not more senior members of Jason Kenney's government choose to do? They CHOSE to ignore both Federal & Provincial POSTED recommendations against essential travel. They CHOSE to 5/9
thumb their noses at you and all of us who did make the sacrifice we believed necessary and right. They CHOSE to put their "family traditions" their "vacation parties", their "need" for friends & family time together above yours. 6/9
All while doctors, nurses and healthcare staff VALIENTLY tried keeping your aunts, uncles, mothers, fathers, sisters and friends ALIVE. Those members of Jason Kenney's government CHOSE their personal "needs" above yours. They CHOSE to NOT sacrifice like you. 7/9
I am an ordinary man, but this episode - one of many discouraging and disappointing episodes involving members of @UCPCaucus is one of the most disgusting and one of the greatest betrayals of public trust in Alberta history. And Jason Kenney? The man supposedly in charge? 8/9
Essentially he says he will NOT punish one - NOT ONE - of these people for such betrayal, even as YOU continue to sacrifice. Whoever you are. Whatever your political affiliation, remember this day. This level of arrogance & betrayal cannot go unpunished. Remember. This. Day. 9/9
