I feel like a lot of people secretly doubted back in march-may whether passing vaccine funding would actually speed up the process and what we're finding is that the decision not to really left us with no infrastructure standing by to do the vaccination
We already went through similar problems with testing too. There were testing labs that sat virtually empty because we never gave providers the resources to integrate additional lab companies into their EMRs
It's not just the front line people who stick things in your arms, it's the whole infrastructure. You need programmers to stand up scheduling systems and inventory management, analysts to keep track of it all, freezers, clinic space, etc
Investments that could have made the whole process go smoother never happened because no one's paying for it
We're trying to squeeze the entire emergency vaccine campaign into the same kind of budget as annual flu vaccinations, which are borderline charity as it is. The savings is not worth it. We're paying 10 times more in economic damage than what it would have taken to do this right
