Contrarians are good for generating discussion and are a necessary corrective in a democracy but we often overvalue contrarians and they often overvalue themselves.
1. When a contrarian disagrees with the majority, this is a weak signal (because they always disagree)

2. Their agreement is a strong signal (but almost never happens)

3. And after a decision is made and people need to pull together, contrarians become like sand in the gears.
Basically I don't think covid contrarianism is helping and is actively making things worse. We need more "yes and" and less "no but". If you have better ideas then implement them. If we have one solution and you tear it apart, all that means is now we have zero solutions.
