A few months ago I told a girl I know who used to live in Portland that she’s a lot better off away from this sort of chaos.

The thing is, I’ve also talked to people who were living in Syria during the height of their war and they said the same thing. How the fighting is confined to certain parts of certain cities, and as long as you stay away from there you’re fine. People still go about their lives.
People in America have miconceptions about what war looks like due to watching media where the focus is always on the action, which is part of why they don’t realize that they’re currently in a war.
