to start things off, Loba is Brazilian. she is a brown brazilian woman, not spanish, not portuguese, brazilian. her and her family spoke brazilian dialect of portuguese in the trailers, she was pitched as a glamorous brazilian thief, and she has small references in her banners.

just before her release, writer tom casiello confirmed that loba speaks both portuguese and spanish, making her trilingual. great. respawn then proceeded to not give her any voicelines or phrases in either language.

according to loba's va, respawn directed her to put on the blandest latin american accent for loba because "intelligibility is more important than representation." despite octane and crypto getting their languages represented in voicelines and lifeline, bloodhound, and horizon-

having very thick accents that are still inteligible thanks to pings and such. but for some unknown reason, loba is forbidden from representing her native tongue of brazilian portuguese or representing trilingualism.

so then, after so much begging, tom casiello decides to pull out this lazy retcon out of some ignorant when it comes to nonwhite topics abyss that the writer team seemed to think was okay

all that rubbish just for it to contradict his confirmation on loba being a polyglot and her quite literally speaking a mix of her 2 non english languages in front of the legends in a s5 loading screen, hence why octane is needed to translate

he was met with a dogpile of backlash for that retcon and has yet to acknowledge and take it back. ashley reed, the writer who was in charge of loba's voicelines, also hasnt acknowledged the backlash and requests at all.

they are literally treating her as some typical spicy latina despite all these hints that point to her having origin specific to brazil. its not some "tragedy" that revenant robbed her of her culture. she doesnt magically forget 2 languages shes fluent in in foster

care when SHE STILL HAS AN ACCENT. SHE WOULD NOT HAVE AN ACCENT IF SHE FORGOT HER NATIVE LANGUAGES. her culture is still present in banners showing brazilian carnaval, flag colors, and fútbol jersey, but they just refuse to give her proper representation in voicelines.

its completely them (Respawn) by the way. its all up to them. Fryda Wolff implies that shes open to doing the voicelines. she knows spanish, and portuguese is not hard if you know spanish since the languages are quite similar. no one is asking for entire sentences like crypto.

all we ask for is small phrases and words in portuguese and maybe spanish. some thank you, youre welcome, beautiful, gorgeous in her languages. undo that lazy retcon. respawn preaches representation but refuses to let loba properly represent brazilians.

she also deserves some kind of legendary skin(s) representing her culture in some way like crypto and rampart do. they can give her a carnival outfit like she wears in her banner, or a skin representing her indigenous brazilian heritage that was explored in concept art.

for now, thats all i think. as a latino player and loba main i really want justice for loba somewhere down the line so hopefully they'll budge
