Tried to make a doctor's appointment today through my *private insurance.* Used to cost $30 and now it costs $250 bc my deductible through my *employer plan* before anything is covered is $5K. New year, new deductible! It's like not having insurance at all!
I would have to go to the doctor 20x before my insurance pays for anything at all. Even if I went to the doctor once every month, which is probably more than I will go, my insurance would cover nothing, and I pay them about $140 a month, and my employer does the same.
I spent about 6 years not having any kind of health insurance at all and carefully calculating whenever I was sick if it was bad enough to go to the doctor and if that outweighed the cost. Now it's exactly the same except that I pay Cigna over a thousand dollars a year too
Why the fuck does anyone think private insurance is good. Does anyone think that private insurance is good? I'm donating $140/mo to them for nothing in return except 50% of my papsmear and the slight mental benefit of knowing if I go to the hospital it won't cost more than $8K
Since this thread is getting some traction, I'll add one more thing, in case you're reading thinking "my employer offers better insurance than hers does, so I'm fine." Mine used to to, companies can change this stuff! That is why we need #MedicareForAll
