1 like = 1 unpopular gun opinion
(i've got some time to burn, so let's have some fun)
1. Your PSA AR and Springfield XD or whatever will work just fine. Most modern semiauto pistols and rifles work (and are designed) so well that it doesn't matter what you buy, as long as you have good ammo and training.
2. Less is more. You likely don't need a PC. If you need to carry extra mags for whatever reason than a compact rig is better. The same goes for your rifle. A WML and optic plus a sling for retention is the limit most people should modify their rifle.
3. Don't watch gun youtubers. 99% of the time their advice is dumb. Want to shoot? Practice dryfire (or go to the range) and instead watch or listen to something with a theme like an anime or audiobook.
4. Some people really shouldn't carry medical stuff because they're more likely to use it incorrectly in an effort to feel like they're "doing something." For an IRL example of this, look into the background of the first officer on Atlas Air Flight 3591.
5. The only 2 questions that matter when buying a gun are "do i like shooting it" and "do i have a use for this." ("fun" is a viable answer)
6. it doesn't matter what sling you use, as long as you have one
7. The AK is a fun rifle but seriously outdated in some respects, and the attempts to modernize it compromise the original spirit of it's design.
8. some rules that fudds enforce are good actually. not all RSOs are out to get you and most just want to do their job well.
9. airguns are very practical and you should have one
10. weaponlights have little use for ccw and sometimes are detrimental. just carry a pocket flashlight
11. smaller size mostly trumps capacity when it comes to ccw. it needs to be comfy to shoot though.
12. olights make decent pocket lights and meh weaponlights. not everyone needs or can afford a modlite/surefire/whatever.
this is probably cope but machine guns being banned doesn’t bother me as much as “assault weapons”/sbrs/suppressors possibly being banned. MGs have limited utility beyond range fun.
14. short barreled shotguns are more trouble than they are worth
15. gun owners who seek to make the current maze of legal restrictions and gun laws more confusing and restrictive are not gun owners.
16. be considerate at the range. just because you *can* magdump your 5” AR-pistol with a brake does not mean you should, and just because it is technically allowed does not mean other rangegoers cannot give you shit for doing it.
17. i'd much rather go shooting with mike from the office who takes his ar out of the safe once a year to punch paper than an Extremely Online gun nerd.
18. most normies will never understand liking guns and that's okay. some things are cooler when it's just you and your friends that are interested in it.
19. there are too many ARs and solely AR-based companies out there
(by this i mean that we should explore other designs, not reduce the common usage of the AR pattern)
20. more gun owners should look into how fun destructive devices are vs. another can or sbr. build a mortar.
21. some people really shouldn't have firearms, and that's something that folks should take into account tbh
22. if you can, you should have 2 guns for carry: one that is the smallest possible (G43 comes to mind), and a compact pistol like a G19 for everyday carry.
23. an often overlooked benefit having nonthreatening and vintage guns is that normies are leagues more comfortable around them than your Mk18 clone build.
24. in the same vein, wall mounts for rifles are cool as fuck provided they are secure (remember that something like 80% of handgun crime in the US occurs with stolen pistols)
25. not all your guns have be in basic bitch calibers. it's ok to get weird
26. just because something is surplus does not mean that it is good, or that it is high quality. often times commercial offerings are better.
27. reloading is based and fudds give it a bad name. if you like the diy aspect of 3d printed guns you will likely love it.
28. skeet and trap is slept on as a fun range day activity
29. purely as a gun owner, nobody in office is your friend.
30. hi-points are a meme, there are plenty of very functional semiautos you can get at that price point.
31. don't baby your rifle. it's a tool, treat it like one.
32. not a bad round
33. video games have done more for gun owners in recent history than the NRA
34. m1 carbine > m1 Garand
35. underrated rifle
i think i'm gonna end it at 35 to prevent even more TL spam, thank you all for reading my bad takes🙂
