3300 miles of COVID era road trip later (i.e. No fun, no non-fuel/bathroom stops, no restaurant meals, no direct eye contact with strangers, copious amounts of hand sanitizer, etc.) here are the #InterstateObservations no one knew they needed. A thread...
Southwest #Michigan is the LAST place to be in late December. The skies are gray, the snow is gray, the roads are gray, the trees are gray & the faces of folks that haven’t seen the sun since October are gray. The only interruption to the gray are ice storms. They’re also gray.
Northern #Indiana smells like paint thinner and disappointment.

In #Illinois people only drive one speed. That speed is at least 28 mph faster than you have ever considered driving a vehicle that isn’t jet powered. They don’t ever slow down. Pretty sure they hate you.
Folks in #Wisconsin, on the other hand, have no idea how fast they want to drive but they will immediately change their mind about that speed the instant that they pass you or are passed by you.

Then #Minnesota. They’ve never met a left lane they weren’t deeply in love with.
Once you’re in #NorthDakota. Just go. Fury Road Style - get the entire hell out of there as fast as you can. There’s nothing to see here.

#SouthDakota has Mt. Rushmore. Other than that it’s just NoDak plus Wall Drug and a 2400% increase in hacky knock-off outlaw biker t-shirts.
Speaking of the Dakotas, if you find yourself anywhere near windmill farms check your gas gauge. Fill up. You will want to keep going until you are no longer anywhere near windmill farms.

#Wyoming is a place that exists.
In #Montana there are an alarming number of drivers from CA, WA and CO. Be wary. They are trying out the 80 mph speed limit while looking through ever pane of glass other than the windshield and I assume saying quaint things like “I think the sky really IS bigger here”.
Random notes: ice fog sucks, blowing snow sucks, black ice sucks, icy bridges suck, Combos are the best road trip snack, in car dog farts can cause blindness and beer tastes really REALLY good when you are no longer behind the wheel after a 1000 mile day.
