Having used teams all through lockdown and teaching lessons to a whole year group here are my top tops...
1) rather than sharing your whole screen have your PowerPoint in one drive and it shares it inside the box which enables you to see participants and chat at the side
2) I tend to plan the lesson to have teacher talk at the beginning and then set them up for a task to do independently for the second part of the lesson away from the screen- sometimes they’ll upload this for me other times not
3) Have students arrive muted and then Utilise hands up function for those who want to answer questions to then in mute themselves. Try and have some of this in every class. My students know that I do it and I’ll scroll through and pick them to answer
4) Microsoft teams also has attendance function if you have insights. Just go to participants, three dots and download attendance. Do this at the end and you can see where students join and leave and rejoin etc.
If you have any other questions about teams or online lessons please message or dm! I know I was nervous when I first started doing them so I know how stressful it can be! I have 22 of them next week

5) Put yourself on do not disturb before the lesson so you don’t have notifications pop up when students write on the chat. For one it’s very distracting and two it enables you to actually see the chat!
6) click this to stop students doing ahead! Super easy and keeps them going at the same pace as you!
7) you can attach resources straight into the chat to make it super easy for students to access any resources needed - document goes straight into the chat for them to download.
8) I am going to try out breakout rooms on Monday and I’ll report back how they work. This is a relative new addition to teams! Seems straight forward but want to see how teachers can monitor this!
