A series of images for the New Year:

Since the New Year and solstice are so close, some of these images show a rebirth or return of light and life.

Which we could sure use these days.

A thread.

This piece is used in the @jhcentre Human Rights Champions Awards. Back when I had time I would gold leaf each print by hand!

Many amazing people have been the recipients of this award.
This piece was always a favourite of mine.

The idea that life springs anew in many forms is pretty cool, and that some stories that resonate have a common template and speak to us in personal ways.
We know that there is a price to things, but there is also a cost to things - and knowing the difference makes all the difference.
Many of us have learned that home and family take in deeper meaning during this time.

What we define as necessary may have also changed.

We connect in so many ways, yet are so far apart in others. Can we find a path to goodness and giving more easily?

Can we build together?
When we listen close we hear new songs.

When we watch more intently we see new colours.

When we feel more openly we sense new paths and truths - that everyone needs some kind of kindness and the absence of it creates deep sickness.

But the presence of it can be healing.
Sometimes you just have to paint a watercolour of Sasquatches playing hockey...
Or dream horses galloping toward a new horizon...
Or even a painting commission for an old friend who you hope is doing well in their new digs in Nova Scotia, @cbcgareth & @portiaclarkcbc #yeg
