Interesting start to the year on twitter with my replies to the tweet from Patricia Karvelas
I get people are angry and frustrated but so many of the replies were unnecessarily rude and personal
I thought the original tweet deserved a response and tried to do so

I thought the original tweet deserved a response and tried to do so
constructively. Her replies clarified her position which I agreed with in part. Slamming the border shut created chaos which should have been better managed.
Her tweet was effectively a shout out to her mates who were caught up in that chaos. Isn't that what we Aussies pride

ourselves on i.e. sticking up for our mates?
Yes people were told not to risk travelling to Greater Sydney, my bet is most of these people hadn't and were in Green Zones. Still a risk but things did change very quickly, I'd argue they had to

Slamming the border shut led to
people being waved through and not checked. How many came from the Greater Sydney Red Zone as a result and increased the risk?

Of course the problem with the original tweet, and why I replied, was it put the blame solely on Victoria. She quickly clarified the governments should
work together, again something I agree with.
The blame obviously goes further than that. Why isn't the federal government involved? Why aren't the ADF being used?
And from there, is NSW doing the right thing in managing this outbreak which is likely a quarentine breach? I'd

say yes and no. The decision to go ahead with the SCG test, with a crowd, is ridiculous imo. I notice Morrison says he would go where as Paul Kelly says he wouldn't. Says quite a bit about Morrison's judgement imo.
Masks should be mandatory on public transport but I do
Masks should be mandatory on public transport but I do
understand the concerns re enforcement and the inequity of how that works. Mandatory without enforcement would still increase mask usage
Anyway. These decisions should be made by health professionals and be free of political interference
Overall, I get people are angry,

Overall, I get people are angry,
frustrated and likely scared. I know many Victorians and know they don't want to go through what happened in 2020 again.
I also know many hated the way the media, state opposition and federal members responded. I mostly agree. Stuff ups need to be called out, there were several

but their approach made things worse.
I understand people asking why the NSW government isn't being called out as well with some wanting the same treatment. I don't want to see that. As I tweeted the other day, 2 wrongs don't make a right.
The media and opposition politicians

The media and opposition politicians
need to find the right balance. Yes call out the stuff ups and voice your concerns but do so as constructively as possible.
The media more broadly has made a rod for their own back by not calling out their colleagues when they get it wrong and allowing the rubbish lines pushed

by some to go unchallenged.
Same with not calling out politicians, on all sides, when they get it wrong but equally patting them on the back when they get it right.
My key message is that everyone needs to take a deep breath and think before you tweet. Don't scapegoat people

and blame them personally for a system that's letting us down
2021 is going to be a big year, a year of change, I'm confident a better year but we all have to do our part.
Play hard but play nice or at least be respectful
Note I deliberately didn't include PK in this tweet

she tweeted she is taking a break and I wish her all the best
Let's work together folks, knock over this outbreak and control the virus so we can focus on making the country a better place (not 1 word at a time grrrr)
