There's a lot of people who understand that making vaccination mandatory won't necessarily lead to the highest vaccination levels, but don't seem to be able to apply that caution to other public health measures like the usage of masks.
When major crises (and their solutions) become politicised, a lot of things get forgotten.

And, as always, pay attention to whether people in the groups most often unfairly targeted by police are among those calling for greater police powers, harsher punishments and expansion of police powers in controlling epidemics.
'Introduce punishments for not wearing a mask' has a lot of similar tones to 'send in a cop army to public housing towers' and 'arrest BLM protestors', in Australia's recent history of COVID19 control reactions.
