Some maps I think of when an academic says that the South doesn’t really exist anymore
clockwise starting top left: time it took for counties to stop travelling after Covid lockdowns, most common ethnicity (showing predominance of ‘American’ (English) and African not seen elsewhere), the low rate of binge drinking, and church attendance highlighting the Bible Belt.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find a good map showing the well known fact of Southerners’ overrepresentation in The US military, a reflection of the ‘warrior culture’ of the South that continues to this day. But here’s the list of most and least active personnel by state:
